Oh today is a happy day. I buckled down yesterday (partially due to an aversion to homework) and finished the Wild Stripes blanket for Nora, my boss’s daughter. I chose a fabric that was a bit lighter in tones than the yarn colors partially because the pattern was really cute and also partially because I liked the thought that the two sides would contrast if I did. It was incredibly tedious sewing the backing, piping and finished knitted piece altogether. It made me wish I had a sewing machine to do at least part of it on. I did get to watch a lot of movies on tv because of it, though.
The embroidery was tedious too, but kind of fun. I had a lot of trouble with the french knots. I think either it was because it was so late or just that its not written well and needs pictures to go with it, but I could not figure out her description of french knots. I read it about fifty times and never really got the gist of it. I eventually just worked out my own method and it looks ok to me, so I’m satisfied.
I also tried to embroider Nora’s initials on it, but I am not so good at letters. You can definitely make out the N and E, but the M is a bit sad and squidgy. However, it was 3am and I wasn’t about to redo it. I figure that its a handmade item so it doesn’t have to be perfect. There are plenty of other imperfections so I can’t sweat the small stuff.
I feel incredibly accomplished for finally finishing an entire project. I’m also really glad that I got Nora’s blanket done before her first birthday when it was supposed to be ready for her birth. (Better late than never, right?) And oh my god, how fun is it to check completed on ravelry and see that WIP label go away? I wish I still felt that way when I completed a homework assignment.
Well so I’m sure everyone wants to see pictures! They might not be that great since I took them at 3 in the morning, but c’est la vie.

Not too shabby, if I do say so myself.
So now the most exciting thing is that I can start a new project as well as work on the ones I already have going since I had been hibernating them during the push to finish this. I’m supposed to make a hat for my friend Will (this one) so I really should start that, but I have all of that birthday yarn that I want to dig into…. what a dilemma. :/

Congrats Jen! It looks so cute. I’m sure that the little gal will love it.
